Ruby

Okay, I really really miss Once Upon a Time, the TV show that inspired this look. Its not an accurate portrayal of Ruby aka Red Riding Hood, but that is who I was thinking of while creating it. I love her so much. I pretty much love all the characters in the show except for Cora. I even like Regina now. I want her to be good! But anyway! You can check out the huge version of this picture here.

Timeless

Skin effing OVERLOAD lately! I was waiting for what seems like the longest time for a new skin, going crazy, and all of a sudden everyone is releasing new skin! I first got Betty and Shyla from Belleza then Lilith from Glam Affair and yesterday Pink Fuel released Kumi and I grabbed it today. So obviously, I couldn't pass up the gorgeous skin by Auxiliary (previously Illusory) at Collabor88. It has an adorable, perfect face and I know the full release will be a must have for me.

Still wearing the Stagioni boots from Maitreya. I don't ever want to take them off. I'm also wearing a new top by Tres Blah available at Collabor88 which looks amazing with Decoy jeans. I have to say, even though Decoy has mesh now, do not count these jeans out! I'm not wearing the prim cuffs at the moment but they are so flawless you wont even notice that they are prims.

Summer's End

I've been playing around in Photoshop trying out a few new techniques and just trying to get better with editing. I used Iris Blur and Light Bokeh on this one and I definitely to keep working on that but I suppose its decent for now lol. I love light bokeh though, so pretty!

Anywho, new things: Glam Affair released the "sister" skin to Leah this weekend. Its called Lilith and its gorgeous! They recently made the body over on their skins too. All nice and smooth! The adorable top is from Cracked Mirror and its mesh of course :) It was released at "My Attic" but is available in the main store now. And finally, more from Auxiliary, which is the new brand from the designers of Aura and Illusory/Atomic. Their mesh skinny jeans are available right now at FaMeshed.

Skin Smoothing, Highlights, and Shadows

I decided to make a really quick tutorial on just a couple things.. Skin smoothing, which is really simple and great for quick edits, and Highlights/Shadows using curves adjustment layers. Please excuse my horrible video, I haven't quite mastered making them yet lol. If there is anything I messed up on, doesn't make sense, or if you just have a question, feel free to contact me :) Hope this helps!

Step by Step

Skin Smoothing

After you've cropped your pic and gotten rid of those pesky lines you get if you have shadows on:

1. Hit D to set your foreground color to black and background to white.


2. Right under your foreground/background color, click the Quick Mask button or just hit the Q key.


3. Grab your brush tool (B) and paint over the area that you want to smooth. Make sure you do not paint over areas with detail such as eyes, eyebrows, mouth, etc. If you see red paint, you're doing it right. If you got it anywhere it doesn't need to be, hit X to switch your foreground color to white and paint over to erase.


4. When you have the desired area covered, click the Quick Mask button (or Q) again, which will select everything except the red. Go up to the Select menu and click on Inverse. This makes all the red paint a selection.


5. Make your selection a new layer by hitting Command or Control + J or going to the Layers menu and selecting New>Layer Via Copy.


6. Now go to the Filter menu.. Blur>Surface Blur... The settings will vary depending on your picture's resolution, so just play around with the sliders until it looks the way you want.

Highlights & Shadows

On your right toolbar, you should see an Adjustments tab. If you don't, go up to the Window menu and make sure there is a check mark beside "Adjustments".

1. In the Adjustments tab, there is a button that looks like a graph with a curve on it. Click it to make a new Curves layer. Remember to rename the layers so you can keep track of what you are doing. For example, Face highlights, Face shadows, Arm highlights, etc.


2. When you make a new Curves layer, a Properties tab will pop up. For highlights, drag the curve up to make the image lighter. Then hit I or Invert button. For shadows, drag the curve down to make it darker. Then Invert that layer as well.


3. Hit D to set your foreground/background color.


4. Grab your brush tool, set it to 0% hardness and about 10-15% opacity.


5. To paint highlights, click your highlights layer in the sidebar, then start painting on your image.


6. To paint shadows, click your shadows layer in the sidebar, then starting painting on your image.

Again, you can have multiple layers, your brush color needs to be to be white, and if you need to erase anything, set your brush color to black and erase.

Here is my finished quick edit using these techniques.. I just brought out the highlights that are already on the skin, eyes, and lips and added subtle details and shadows. You can do much much more! Hope this helps :)

Silent Screen

I am pretty clueless when it comes to pre 1950ish fashion so I definitely don't do La Petite Morte's Vintage Fair skins any justice at all. The skins are all gorgeous (there are 3 VF exclusives) and this is the Silent Screen Star skin. This picture was so easy to edit because the skin is in BLACK AND WHITE. How awesome is that? The pose and fancy cigarette are from La Petite Morte as well :)

Another VF item is this dress from Geometry. I've already posted this hair before, but here it is again in black, a new release from Adore & Abhor.

I think my favorite vintage style would have to be bohemian and I love this crochet top by Shabby Cat at Vintage Fair. *BOOM* has released some great bikinis and there are a lot of different colors/patterns to choose from. You can get them in sets or separates so you can mix and match. This is the new skin, Twiggy, from My UglyDorothy and I was amazed when I saw the makeups on this skin! They are really really pretty. You can pick from 3 tones and each tone comes with a base skin, 8 makeups, and a teeth version of each. There are also 2 extra eyebrow colors on tattoo layers. The tone I'm wearing here is "Saddle".



I'm also wearing the new Sanura Nightie from Sn@tch. I love the pastel colors and soft textures on this.. I would love to see this in their darker colors too ;D

Owl Always Love You

Wowww, this has been sitting on my flickr page for days waiting to be blogged but I've had some technical difficulties with my blog lately. All is well now and I am so relieved! I was getting really anxious not being able to blog anything xD

Summer Peach

Summer Peach? (o.O) Yeah, I don't know... I've been thinking of hopping on the Look ### bandwagon because I am absolutely terrible at coming up with names for my posts. It would be so much easier to call this Look #201 or whatever, but I don't know, is that lazy or ok? /confused/ I don't usually have a theme for my posts like some other bloggers. I put together outfits that I just like, that I would probably wear myself in real life and I just can't name them sometimes! Well, you're probably not offended as much as I am by my cheesy titles.. hopefully not anyway ;)

I am wearing a super cute hairstyle from Ohmai available at the Hair Fair until July 29. It is adorable and looks awesome with my nerdy glasses! The Mix pack colors are really pretty and unique and the textures are very nicely done. Its not mesh but I don't mind at all when it comes to shorter hairstyles. I know a lot of people are shopping mesh only at Hair Fair, but I promise this is worth checking out!

And more add ons for bare feet at Slink! I'm not sure if these are new or if I'm just late seeing them but either way YAY! These are my favorite feet and so far I adore all the add on shoes for them. Keep them coming, please Siddean ♥.
